Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about 15 km from Sanur. With light traffic the drive takes around 25 to 35 minutes; at busy times it can take much longer, so build in a buffer, especially for the trip back.

Airport taxi counter

After you leave international arrivals you will find the official airport taxi counter. Fares are fixed by zone rather than metered: you pay at the counter and are taken to a licensed car. Fares change from time to time, so check the price board before you pay.

Grab and Gojek

Ride-hailing apps such as Grab and Gojek work at Bali airport, with pick-ups at a designated area in the multi-storey car park, a short walk from arrivals; follow the signs. Fares vary with demand, and waits can be long at peak times, typically in the afternoon.

Pre-booked hotel transfer

Most hotels in Sanur can arrange a driver who waits in arrivals with your name on a sign. It costs more than a taxi, but it is the simplest choice for a late-night arrival, with small children or with a lot of luggage.

Shuttle buses

Shared shuttles run between the airport and the main tourist areas, including Sanur. They are cheaper but slower because of the stops, and you may need a short taxi ride from the drop-off point to your hotel.

The route

Most drivers take the Bypass Ngurah Rai along the coast to Sanur; some use the Bali Mandara toll road for part of the journey. Your driver handles the toll.

Going back to the airport

Traffic on the way to the airport is hard to predict, so leave Sanur with plenty of spare time and follow your airline's advice on when to arrive. On your last day, a massage before you leave is a good way to prepare for a long flight; see our guide to spa time before your flight.

Arriving around Nyepi

Bali's airport closes completely for Nyepi, the Day of Silence. In 2027 that is Monday 8 March. Read our Nyepi guide if your trip is around that date.

Prices, pick-up points and rules at the airport change from time to time. Check the latest information before you travel.
