Fast Boat from Sanur to Nusa Penida: Tips & Where to Unwind

Sanur is one of the main departure points in Bali for fast boats to Nusa Penida. The crossing is short, but a day trip on Nusa Penida involves long drives on rough roads, hot sun and a lot of walking. Here is what we tell guests planning the trip, and how many of them end their day with us.

Crossing time and departures

Most fast boats take about 30 to 45 minutes to reach Nusa Penida, depending on the operator and the arrival point. Several operators run many departures a day, mostly from the morning to the late afternoon, so you can usually pick a time that fits your plans. Schedules change, so confirm yours when you book.

Check-in and booking

Plan to check in at least one hour before departure.
Booking online in advance is usually easier than buying at the harbour, and helps you avoid queues.
Luggage allowances vary by operator, often around 20 to 30 kg per person. Check the rules if you are bringing bulky items.
Traffic into the harbour is heaviest in the early morning, roughly 7AM to 9AM, so leave extra time.

What to pack for the day

A hat, sunscreen, water, a light rain jacket, and comfortable shoes with grip. Roads on Nusa Penida are rough and viewpoints involve many steps. Bring a change of clothes for the ride back.

Recover when you are back

After a long day of walking and bumpy roads, most guests want their legs, feet and shoulders looked after. Foot reflexology and a Balinese massage are the most popular choices. If you return from the harbour late, our last appointment is at 7:30PM and we are open until 9PM.
