Mertasari Beach, at the southern end, is known for calm, shallow, reef-protected water. It is wide and quiet, and on weekends local families come to swim, snack and fly kites. It has toilets, showers and changing rooms, a public playground and simple warungs. There are no lifeguards, so watch children closely, and bring some cash for snacks. It can get windy in the late afternoon, and after heavy rain some rubbish can wash in.
The beachfront path
The flat, paved path suits strollers, scooters and small bikes. Early morning is coolest and quietest. Stop at the playgrounds and warungs along the way, and keep to the sunny hours short.
