The beachfront path is the best free thing to do in Sanur. It runs for about 5 km along the shore, it is flat and paved, and the main stretch has no cars or motorbikes. You can walk it slowly in an hour or two, or cycle it in less.

When to go

Early morning, from about 6AM to 9AM, is the best time: cooler, quieter and with the sunrise over the water. Late afternoon, from about 4PM until sunset, is the second good window. We would avoid the middle of the day, roughly 11AM to 3PM, for anything longer than a short stroll. The sun is strong and shade is limited on parts of the path.

Weekday mornings tend to be the quietest.

What you will pass

  • Karang Beach, around the middle of the path, where traditional fishing boats are pulled up and local warungs serve simple food.
  • Sindhu Beach, where the path is busiest and a small market often sets up in the morning.
  • Le Mayeur Museum, a small museum in the former home of a Belgian painter, a short ride north.
  • Quieter northern stretches, such as Segara Village Beach, where the water is calm for a swim.

Walking or cycling

Bike rental stands line the path. Rates and quality vary, so check the tyres and brakes before you set off, and bring cash. If you walk, bring water, a hat and sunscreen, and wear shoes that are comfortable on pavement.

Rest your legs afterwards

After a long walk or ride, our foot reflexology and Balinese massage are what most people book. Foot reflexology works on the soles and calves and is a good fit after hours on your feet. Both take about an hour. Our spa is on Jalan Batur Sari, a short ride from the path, and we are open daily 9AM–9PM.

Local details such as bike rental rates can change, so check on the day.
