What is Sensatia Botanicals?
Sensatia Botanicals was founded in Bali in 2000 and is based in the island's Karangasem regency, where much of its workforce is from. The brand says its products are cruelty-free and made without parabens, sulfates, silicones, palm oil, synthetic dyes or artificial fragrance, that it shares profits with all employees, and that it runs a bottle-return programme for empties. Those are the company's own statements, as reported in 2025, and we have not independently audited them.
We use it because a massage is only as good as what is on the therapist's hands. A good oil lets the hands glide without tugging at the skin, and it gives the treatment a scent you remember.

What a massage oil actually does
Oil does three practical jobs in a massage. It reduces friction so strokes can be long and smooth. It lets the therapist work firmly without pinching skin or hair. And it conditions the skin, which is why skin often feels softer and more hydrated after a massage.
Sensatia says its massage oils double as body oils that keep skin soft and hydrated for hours. For the best result, cleanse and exfoliate first, then apply the oil to clean skin. That is advice from the brand, and our body scrub is a natural first step if you want it.
The four scents
Pick by mood. All four are included in every massage, and you can ask your therapist to let you smell them first:
Lemongrass & Mandarin
A bright, citrus-green blend. Lemongrass is a tall tropical grass grown across Southeast Asia, and mandarin is a sweet, sunny citrus peel oil. It reads as fresh and uplifting, which makes it a natural pick for a morning or midday massage.
Seaside Citrus
Built around grapefruit peel, which Sensatia describes as having natural cleansing properties. Clean, sharp and zesty, it suits guests who dislike heavy floral scents or who want to feel awake afterwards.
Relaxation
Lavender, chamomile and geranium: the classic calming trio. Lavender and chamomile are among the most familiar bedtime-style scents in the world, and geranium adds a soft, rosy green note. Choose this for an evening massage or when your mind is busier than your muscles.
Tropical Wildflower
Ylang ylang, geranium and jasmine sambac. Ylang ylang comes from the flowers of a tree native to Indonesia and the Philippines, and jasmine sambac is the white jasmine that is Indonesia's national flower. It is the most floral, warm and perfume-like of the four.
How to choose your oil
Want to feel awake and fresh? Lemongrass & Mandarin or Seaside Citrus. Want to wind down at the end of the day? Relaxation, with lavender, chamomile and geranium. Want something warm and floral? Tropical Wildflower, built on ylang ylang and jasmine sambac.
Scent is personal. If you are sensitive to fragrance, have allergies or have had skin reactions to essential oils, tell your therapist before the massage begins. Tell your therapist about pregnancy, injuries, skin conditions or medical conditions before you start. Treatments here are for relaxation and wellbeing and are not medical treatment.
Pair the oil with the right massage
The oil is the same across our massages, so choose the oil for your nose and the massage for your body. For firm, focused work on tight muscles, choose a deep tissue massage. For a flowing full-body session with stretching and acupressure, choose a Balinese massage. For a scent-led session, an aromatherapy massage is built around the oils, and the Sari Signature Relaxing massage is the gentlest. For heat, try a hot stone massage.
