What is a relaxing massage?

A relaxing massage, sometimes called a relaxation or Swedish-style massage, is the massage most people picture when they imagine a spa: long, smooth gliding strokes, slow kneading of the shoulders and legs, and steady, gentle-to-medium pressure from start to finish. There is no hunting for knots and no sudden intensity. The point is to let your body stop bracing.

Our Sari Signature Relaxing Massage is our version of this. It is designed to promote relaxation and improve circulation, and it is deliberately the softest, most rhythmic massage on our menu.

Sari Signature Relaxing Massage at Sari Day Spa, Sanur

Why gentle is not the same as nothing

People often assume a gentle massage does not 'do' anything. In practice the opposite is common: long, rhythmic strokes tend to calm the nervous system, and after twenty minutes many guests notice their breathing has slowed and their shoulders have dropped without being told to. You do not need pressure to feel the difference between a body that has been looked after and one that has not.

Pressure is also a personal setting rather than a style. If you want it firmer, say so, and your therapist will build it up. If you want deeper, targeted work, book deep tissue instead.

How the session flows

Because rhythm is the point, the session follows a steady pattern:

  1. Settling inYou lie down, your therapist covers you with a towel and asks about pressure and any areas to avoid.
  2. Oil and glideSensatia Botanicals oil is warmed in the hands and spread with long strokes along the back.
  3. Slow kneadingThe shoulders, arms, legs and feet are worked with unhurried kneading and gliding, always in a repeated rhythm so your body can predict and relax into it.
  4. Back to calmThe final minutes slow right down so you leave sleepy and loose rather than stimulated.

Who it suits

It is the right choice if this is your first massage, if you prefer light-to-medium pressure, if you are tired from travel, or if you are booking with a partner or friend who has never had a professional massage. It also suits people who find deep tissue or acupressure uncomfortable.

If you want more stretching and pressure points, choose Balinese massage. If you want scent as part of the experience, choose aromatherapy. If you want to work on a stubborn knot, choose deep tissue. All four cost the same: IDR 245K for 60 minutes, IDR 345K for 90.

When to book it

A soft landing on your first afternoon in Sanur, a break in a busy itinerary, an evening treatment before sleep, or a pre-flight reset. Pick 90 minutes if you want to drift off properly, and 60 minutes for a shorter, simpler reset.

Your oil: Sensatia Botanicals

Every massage here uses Sensatia Botanicals, a natural skincare brand made in Bali. The oil does real work: it lets the therapist's hands glide without dragging the skin, and it leaves your skin conditioned afterwards. Our four oil variants are scented with essential oils, so what you smell is part of the treatment.

Lemongrass & Mandarin

A bright, citrus-green blend. Lemongrass is a tall tropical grass grown across Southeast Asia, and mandarin is a sweet, sunny citrus peel oil. It reads as fresh and uplifting, which makes it a natural pick for a morning or midday massage.

Seaside Citrus

Built around grapefruit peel, which Sensatia describes as having natural cleansing properties. Clean, sharp and zesty, it suits guests who dislike heavy floral scents or who want to feel awake afterwards.

Relaxation

Lavender, chamomile and geranium: the classic calming trio. Lavender and chamomile are among the most familiar bedtime-style scents in the world, and geranium adds a soft, rosy green note. Choose this for an evening massage or when your mind is busier than your muscles.

Tropical Wildflower

Ylang ylang, geranium and jasmine sambac. Ylang ylang comes from the flowers of a tree native to Indonesia and the Philippines, and jasmine sambac is the white jasmine that is Indonesia's national flower. It is the most floral, warm and perfume-like of the four.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Sari Signature Relaxing Massage?

IDR 245K for 60 minutes and IDR 345K for 90 minutes.

Is it a good first massage?

Yes. It is our gentlest massage, so it is a comfortable place to start if you have never had one or prefer light pressure.

What is the difference between a relaxing massage and a Balinese massage?

A relaxing massage uses long, gentle, rhythmic strokes. A Balinese massage adds deeper pressure, acupressure and stretching, so it feels more active.

Can I ask for more pressure?

Yes. Tell your therapist during the massage and they will adjust it, or choose Balinese or deep tissue for firmer work.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

60 minutes is a good reset. 90 minutes gives a fuller, slower full-body massage with time to fall asleep if you want to.

Can I book on the same day?

Message us on WhatsApp at +62 811 3888 485 to check availability. Walk-ins are welcome when a therapist is free.
